Along
the shores of the Firth of Forth lies a course which embodies
an interesting history out of which has come a blend of styles
rather unusual in a seaside setting. The links of Lundin Golf
Club, and the course of its neighbours Leven, in days gone
by were one and the same. For a time the clubs shared the
course, starting at opposite ends. Play continue from both
ends until 1909 when the course was divided at the 'Mile Dyke'
with Leven retaining the Western side, and Lundin the Eastern
side, allowing the development of two 18 hole layouts.
Lundin
Golf Club was founded in 1868. Built on rolling sand hills
of Lundin Mill, playing 9 holes out and 9 back, very much
in keeping with the style of nineteenth century course design.
Old Tom Morris is credited with the original layout of the
back nine holes, although it appears he had some input in
the first nine.
The Open Championship final qualifying is a regular visitor
to Lundin Links when the Open is played at St Andrews, and
the club annually plays host to the East of Scotland stroke
play championship. In 1975 Lundin was the venue for the World
Senior Professional Championship, won that year by Roberto
De Vicenzo
